Mulan #6

http://www.beckersbakeryanddeli.com/images/Cakes/Mulan.jpgMulan was a perfect reminder of women's rights. Ha! But really, she was so confident and determined in all that she did (other than thinking she was a disappointment to her fam.). I tend to forget this movie when I think of Disney movies...maybe because Cinderella and Beauty and the Beast steal some of the thunder from it. However, after watching Mulan I am sad I "forgot" about it.

Mulan starts off with an attack from the "other side" and all of the men are called to report for duty. (Maybe I could make this a history lesson and remind the students that the "draft" is real) Mulan's father was injured and she was furiated at the thought of him having to serve. You guessed it, she snuck out with his scroll (another lesson topic), suited up in his armor (another lesson topic) and rode off on her horse to report for duty in her father's place.

This movie made me laugh quite a bit, the cute little cricket and funny dragon were very well written scripts. As Mulan entered into training camp before war we saw her go from not being able to spit to conquering her entire "classes" abilities! In the end, Mulan saves the country and her father is more than happy to own up to her as his daughter. Great movie, def. makes any girl feel like she can do anything in the world (as it should be :) )!

Next on the list...we'll go "unda tha sea" with Aerial in The Little Mermaid!
