Wednesday was my first day in the Pre-K class @ a near by elementary school! I am so excited about being in this class, I've already learned so much (I hope I can remember) and I can't wait until next week.
So I thought I'd give a brief summary of my day:
Arrival time 8:00 a.m., after going to the wrong exit (thank you online maps) I pulled up right on time... Good thing I left early ;) So, I went to the Cafeteria with the children for breakfast. Right off the bat I saw smiling faces and children that loved their teachers (fabulous encouragement for my future profession!). A few silly things that happened during breakfast:
1.) Sweet little fellow "used his words" and asked for help starting the opening to his milk. He then proceeded to open his CHOCOLATE milk. After he finished I praised him for a job well done, he then looked at me and poured is delicious choco. milk in a bowl of cheerios...yum? (It was @ this moment, I was once again reassured about my love for children)
2.) A beautiful little girl had taken her banana out of it's peel and called me over to see. I observed, reminding her to say "Banana"...since their big on using vocabulary. She looked at me and raised her foot up to her lap, holding the banana on the bottom of her shoe, she started to make a surprised face then giggles. This very hard to describe action was a representation of her "slipping" on the banana. Ah, Curious George has done his duty indeed :)
More specifically, the classroom I am working in is about half/half with General Education & Special Needs children. The object and goal of this is for each to teach the other something. The Gen.Ed. students are role models for the Special Needs students, as well as the Special Needs students teach the Gen. Ed. students more than they can ever imagine. This early intervention is such a unique design and catching on like wild fire across the country. Personally, I love it and see so much good in it!
Okay so I could go on and on about amazing stories from my day. Obviously that was just breakfast! I was only there from 8:00-10:30 this week, but loved every minute of it and never knew there were so many songs that could be sung in two and a half hours! Next week we are going on a field trip, I love elementary school!
Until next weeks Academic Amanda...learn something new everyday!
You are going to be such a great teacher. You can tell your love of children and teaching, just by the way you wrote about your morning at the school.
